Janet Wong has been appointed co-chair of the Notable Books for a Global Society (NBGS) Committee, part of the IRA Children's Literature and Reading Special Interest Group. Each year the NBGS Committee selects 25 outstanding children's/young adult trade books for enhancing understanding of people and cultures around the world.
Our very own Janet Wong (and Sylvia Vardell) founded Pomelo Books and have published a series of poetry anthologies to make it easy for teachers to share a poem every week with their class, with connections to the Common Core or the Texas TEKS (depending on the version). Joan Bransfield Graham and April Halprin Wayland both have poems in each of the Poetry Friday Anthologies, including the newest, The Poetry Friday Anthology for Middle School.
